Public Works - New.  The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) has put a couple things of interest on their web site.  Off-Haul Frequently Asked Questions is at www.dir.ca.gov/dlsr/FAQ_Hauling.html.  Prevailing wage rates for residential work is now at www.dir.ca.gov/dlsr/Residential/reslist.html.  If you don't know what these things mean, you might want to check out the DIR's Public Works training on May 14 in Oakland.  The trip will save you a ton of money and assure competitive bidding is truly competitive.

Green Building Classes at Butte College - Enrolling for Fall Semester.  www.butte.edu.  When we look at plans out to bid in the North State, 21 require knowledge of LEED, 12 require Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) criteria and 1 requires GreenPoint rating.  Learn the fundamental Green Building principles behind all these requirements by heading back to school.  Classes are late in the afternoon to meet your schedule.  Also, the VCE website has a page dedicated to Green Building links.  Check it out at www.vceonline.com.  Click on "Green Building".

Cal/OSHA Notes:  On forklifts and other powered industrial trucks, if seatbelts are provided, the operator must use them.  The additional few seconds to click and un-click can save the operator from a serious injury caused by flying out of the seat if there's a sudden stop or rollover.

Employers!  Are you posting current safety and employment posters?  We can get you a set.  Give us a call.  Also, check the safety certifications and special trainings that may be required for your trade.  Go to the VCE website, click on Construction Safety, then on "Click here for a complete list of Cal/OSHA Safety Training Requirements."
